Building Safety Manager

 

Base office location may vary dependent upon suitable candidate - balance of home and office working

  

£53,134 - £55,931 per year

 

Plus Company car or car allowance

 

35 hours per week

 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Building Safety Manager to join our Building Safety Services team covering the Midlands and North West. The team sits in the Building Safety and Compliance Directorate. This role is managed by a Building Safety Technical Lead. The team supports the group in ensuring residents are safe, and feel safe, in our high-rise buildings as well as meeting our current and upcoming legislative requirements.

 

The role of Building Safety Manager will include:

  • Help us meet, and exceed the requirements of the Building Safety Act, and other associated legislation.
  • Visiting sites across the West Midlands and the North West, including housing for older persons and student accommodation
  • leading on the production, updating and submitting of the safety case report, and supporting other BSMs including peer review
  • working with others, including contractors to understand the systems within the building, to ensure that they are suitably designed and maintained to ensure resident safety
  • Engage with our residents and make a difference to their safety, as well as those helping to keep them safe, such as on site accommodation staff, housing officers, caretakers and concierges
  • Support and work with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders, providing accurate and timely information, advice and guidance, and gaining assurance to help building a safety case report and ensure resident safety
  • Monitoring risks and remedial actions on higher risk buildings, and escalating concerns when required
  • The role also has the opportunity to develop technical skills and knowledge to support the team’s overall competency, which will also include contributing to the development of policies, procedures and technical guidance notes

 

Skills and experiences:

  • Level 5 or equivalent experience in a subject related to the built environment or safety, such as in building safety management, fire engineering, building surveying or construction
  • Professional membership, or working towards, Chartered status or equivalent of a body working in the Built Environment, or a relevant Professional Engineering Institute (e.g. MIfireE, MCIOB, MRICS, MCABE)     
  • Curiosity and willing to learn from others                  
  • Robust and pragmatic knowledge and application of building regulations, legislation and current practice, ensuring resident safety is always prioritised
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the building structure, fabric and systems used during construction and maintenance
  • Thorough knowledge of the application of Health and Safety legislation
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer care skills
  • Good Technical Report and Committee Report writing skills
  • Ability to present recommendations based on analysis, logic and evidence
  • This role will involve driving on company business. In order to drive a company vehicle, drivers must hold a full valid UK driving licence
