Fire Technician


Role covers the North of England and Scotland – Base location dependent on suitable candidate, to be based within geographical area covered


£40,224 per annum inclusive of policy allowance (rising to £42,341 after 12 months service subject to satisfactory performance) plus company car


35 hours per week – Monday to Friday


Our Group Building Safety Services team are pivotal in ensuring that we deliver a sector leading and high-quality building safety capability with our priority being the safety of our residents. The Fire Technician will join a small team of 6, reporting in to the Senior Fire Technician, within the wider Health and Safety function. The fire team provides guidance and support to the group on fire safety matters and to ensure statutory, regulatory and contractual compliance to minimise the risk and maximise safety to ensure best practice is employed across the group.  You will be adaptable, flexible and a team player, who is an excellent communicator and inspires and guides the actions of others.


The role of Fire Technician will include:

  • Assisting and guiding the Asset teams when undertaking their fire risk assessments and providing appropriate advice on the application and interpretation of fire legislation
  • Monitoring the fire precautions at various stages throughout construction
  • Responding to communications from enforcing authorities on technical fire issues
  • Supporting managers, including Local Service Managers and Housing Officers with technical fire enquires
  • Investigating fire related incidents and providing detailed and accurate reports
  • Producing and delivering training to staff carrying out fire risk assessments and building strategies
  • Providing technical advice on new development, existing buildings, new acquisitions and proposed alterations to existing buildings when requested and monitoring of these through to testing on completion
  • Liaising with our PAS partnership manager and undertaking annual audits of fire risk assessments


Skills and experiences:

  • Previous experience in a similar fire safety role is essential
  • Comprehensive knowledge of fire regulations and legislation, including the Regulatory Reform Order 2005
  • Relevant professional qualification in fire safety, level 5 or equivalent, along with Membership of the Institute of Fire Engineers are essential
  • Proven experience of analysing and diagnosing problems and implementing solutions in a decisive way
  • Skilled in interpretation of building plans and approving design and alterations
  • Ability to identify training needs and support staff development is advantageous
  • Excellent communication, customer service and interpersonal skills, enabling you to identify the needs of the customer
  • Experience of report writing
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Officer applications
  • This role will involve driving on company business. In order to drive a company vehicle, drivers must hold a full valid UK driving licence.

Role Salary is £38,890 with an additional policy allowance of £1,333 per annum (rising to £40,937 with an additional policy allowance of £1,404 per annum after 12 months, subject to satisfactory performance)
