Assistant Buyer


Worcester based with an anticipated balance of home and office working (40/60)


£24,946 per annum (rising to £26,259 after 12 months, subject to satisfactory performance)


35 hours per week


The Procurement team at Sanctuary is looking for an ambitious, enthusiastic, hardworking individual to join a friendly and collaborative team.  Our role is to ensure Sanctuary get the best possible suppliers delivering value for money, high quality, efficiency, and our environmental and social value ambitions.  We also play a key role in keeping Sanctuary safe through letting legally compliant tenders and providing great advice and support to colleagues.


We are a team that enjoys learning and this post comes with the opportunity undertake Chartered Institute of Procurement Supply Level 3 or 4 qualification dependent on experience.


The role of Assistant Buyer will include:

  • Liaising with internal colleagues as well as suppliers to manage low value contracts, including occasional face to face and virtual meetings
  • Monitoring and analysing prices and negotiating any changes
  • Taking responsibility for specific category spend areas and becoming the expert in this area
  • Carrying out market research of the categories
  • Carrying out tenders, mini-competitions, and direct awards for some categories to ensure quality and value for money.  
  • Contributing to continuous improvement projects with other team members
  • Supporting the Group Procurement Manager on large projects
  • Answering any queries that come into the team, be that via telephone or e-mail


Skills and experiences:

  • Able to work with a variety of individuals
  • Good communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Excellent customer service and analytical skills
  • Able to work towards deadlines and prioritize workloads
  • Experience using Microsoft packages, Outlook, Word & Excel
  • Previous experience of undertaking a similar role is desirable but not essential
  • Some SAP, e-tendering portal experience (ProContract preferable) and Microsoft Teams would be useful but is not essential
