Bank Mental Health Support Worker

 

The Lookout, Winchester

 

£10.49 per hour (rising to £10.81 after 12 months, subject to satisfactory performance)

 

Hours as and when required

 

 

This is a joint initiative with West Hampshire CCG and application details such as CVs will be shared with them and with our NHS partners in order to carry out shortlisting and interviewing.

 

We are looking for experienced Bank Mental Health Support Worker with the passion and drive to support service users with complex needs to recover from crisis. The Lookout in Winchester is a new service developed with West Hampshire CCG and offers a short-term alternative to NHS admissions for adults experiencing mental health issues.

 

If you want to make a real difference to people’s lives, this is a rewarding opportunity to be part of an exciting new service. In this role you will provide person-centred support, working alongside service users to set and meet their recovery goals. 

 

This is a unique opportunity for you to work with our partners in the Southern Health Foundation Trust, extending your knowledge and advancing your skills in mental health support practice.

 

The role of Bank Mental Health Support Worker will include:

  • Ensuring that relevant support is provided to service users to maximise their recovery from crisis
  • Supporting progress towards independence in managing positive mental health
  • Leading daily one to one and group activities in line with service users’ goals, including support with food preparation
  • Promoting safety by undertaking risk assessments and reviewing service users’ needs
  • Regularly assessing the needs of service users, writing and updating support plans
  • Developing professional relationships with service users, using appropriate and clear communication to ensure their personal choice, privacy and dignity is maintained

 

Skills and experiences:

  • Previous experience of working with adults with mental health needs
  • The ability to relate and empathise with people with mental health issues
  • You may have lived experience of using mental health services and will have the knowledge and understanding to support people in crisis.
  • Reacting effectively to highly pressured situations
  • Good skills in developing and maintaining accurate records and support plans
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft packages and internet communications
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or willing to work towards, is essential
