Specialist Project Worker – Part Time


Old Johnson House, Sittingbourne


£12.27 per hour (rising to £12.65 after 12 months, subject to satisfactory performance)


30 hours per week, Monday – Sunday including bank holidays, 9am - 8pm

We have a great opportunity for an experienced Specialist Project Worker with passion and drive to provide support for our young people within the East Kent Young People Service. East Kent Young People Supported Housing has schemes across Canterbury, Swale and Thanet.


Our supported living service provides Young People’s Supported Accommodation and Floating Support Service (YP SA/FS) Service for:

  • Older Children in Care (16 and 17);
  • Care Leavers up to 21 years old; and
  • 16 & 17year olds at risk of homelessness identified under the 16-17 Joint Homeless Protocol.

The role of Specialist Project Worker will include:

  • To manage a team of Project Workers in supporting our residents to create a personalised action plan to address and effectively manage their support needs  
  • Managing, recruiting, developing and training staff within appropriate legislative and devising effective and well run staff rotas
  • Promoting independence in all areas of daily living skills
  • Completing and monitoring health and safety checks within the service and HMO services
  • Recording information in daily support and inter-agency records
  • Reviewing risk assessments to support, reduce or eliminate risks and work through personalised support plans with the residents
  • Safeguarding residents and communicating ways for them to keep themselves safe and who to report to
  • Having access to a vehicle is essential to the role


Skills and experiences:

  • Proven experience of working with homelessness
  • Sound knowledge of housing management including rents, tenancies and health and safety
  • Compassionate, caring and hard working with a hands-on approach to support management settings
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Good understanding of occupancy agreements
  • Ability to work on your own initiative
  • Ability to react effectively under pressure
  • Those with enthusiasm and commitment to progressing a career within a supported housing environment are encouraged to apply
  • Providing supervision for staff as required
  • Promoting best practice within supported accommodation by monitoring relationships with service users, relatives, and visitors to ensure quality services are carried out by staff
