Newton Abbot Floating Support Service, covering the Teignbridge area


£9.99 - £10.30


37.5 hours per week – Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm



We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Project Worker to make a real difference to the lives of our clients. At Newton Abbot Floating Support Service, we provide community-based floating support to individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and who live in South Hams, Teignbridge and West Devon. We are looking for supportive and positive people to engage with our clients who are managing complex needs. The services may be challenging, but they present a rewarding opportunity for someone who is resilient and confident in overcoming hurdles.


The role of Project Worker will include:

  • Assessing the needs of our residents by writing and updating support plans, and signposting access to education, training, employment and specialist agencies such as debt advice
  • Regular key working and support planning to deliver a high quality, intensive support service encouraging our clients to maximise their level of independence
  • Offering advice in relation to fulfilling tenancy conditions
  • Assisting clients with managing finances and welfare benefits
  • Supporting residents to build confidence, resilience and self-esteem
  • Working with statutory and non-statutory agencies on behalf of the clients for additional support needs, and actively encouraging choice and involvement, or acting as an advocate when required
  • Promoting safe working practices by undertaking risk assessments within legislative parameters
  • Travel is a requirement of the role, therefore a full valid driving licence is essential


Skills and experiences:

  • Previous experience of working with vulnerable people
  • You will be empathetic and non-judgmental, with a positive approach to managing challenging behavior
  • Sound knowledge of housing management including rents, tenancies and health and safety
  • Good understanding of occupancy agreements
  • The ability to work on your own initiative
  • The ability to react effectively under pressure
  • NVQ3 in Health & Social Care, or willing to work towards
