Gas Engineer


Homeworking – covering Ely, Cambridge, Ipswich, Colchester and Chelmsford


£33,552 - £35,318 per year


40 hours per week – plus £115 per on call weekend (usually 1 in 4 weeks) and if called out you’ll also get a time and half payment for the entire job plus travel time


We are looking for an experienced qualified domestic Gas Engineer to join our East Gas team.


You’ll carry out repairs and maintain a vast variety of heating systems in our tenants houses and other Group properties. The role will include both team and lone working, therefore we are seeking experienced engineers.

We advocate a good work/life balance and the focus for our Engineers is on providing quality for our customers and not the quantity of services carried out. You’ll typically carry out about 8 jobs per day which will be a mixture of service or repairs. We offer job security – we own our properties and maintaining the gas and heating systems is a big undertaking. We therefore employ people all year round, not just in the colder Winter months. 


You’ll be provided with a company van and all the power and essential tools needed for the job. You’ll also be issued with an iPhone and tablet which links to our systems including scheduling and fault reporting.


We offer full training in terms of our Group processes, H&S and Legionella regulations and undertaking safe systems of work.


What exactly you can expect to be doing:

  • Service, maintenance and diagnostics of Gas Boilers, Central Heating and Unvented Hot Water Systems
  • Utilising analytical and trade skills to diagnose and repair faults
  • Completing and submitting gas safety records, identifying and responding to risks, recording logging and completing work via electronic device tablet or phone
  • Ensuring tools and equipment are maintained in good condition and stocks are replenished as needed from our partner suppliers


Skills and experience required:

  • You will hold a current Gas safe registration ACS (previously ACOPS) along with a natural gas domestic qualification -minimum of CCN1, CENWAT, CKR1, and HTR1
  • Unvented Hot Water Qualification UDHW is also essential
  • Ideally you will have experience of servicing and repairing boilers
  • The ability to work alone on a variety of different boiler types and systems
  • Have a proactive approach to health and safety, creating a safe environment for all
  • This role will involve driving on company business. In order to drive a company vehicle, drivers must hold a full valid UK driving licence
