Senior Building Safety Surveyor


Octavian Centre, Chester – covering the North West region with frequent travel


£35,075 per annum inclusive of policy allowance (rising to £36,921 per annum inclusive of policy allowance after 12 months service subject to satisfactory performance) plus company car


35 hours per week


Our Building Safety Services team are pivotal in ensuring that we deliver a sector leading and high-quality building safety capability with our priority being the safety of our residents. As Senior Building Safety Surveyor, you’ll be responsible for delivering high quality building safety surveying and remediation works.


You’ll be working across high and low rise residential stock in your area to ensure building and fire safety, completing data gathering for Type 4 fire risk assessments, external wall system inspections, compartmentation surveys, fire door compliance surveys and other fire and building safety related surveys.


In addition to this you will work with a dedicated Programme Team and Fire Technicians to collate, improve, and store quality data on aspects of building safety and asset attributes to contribute towards a Golden Thread of digital information. This role also offers a great opportunity to develop your career where you will have the opportunity to undertake training in technical aspects of fire safety, complex surveying, and advanced fire risk assessments.


The role of Senior Building Safety Surveyor will include:

  • Managing works relating to building safety surveys and property inspections
  • Making technical recommendations on remediation solutions and interim measures for significant fire and safety issues
  • Overseeing remediation projects
  • Producing reports and documentation of work specifications and tenders
  • Assisting in addressing and resolving issues to ensure the Group is compliant with relevant legislation
  • Coordinating communications and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Supporting the delivery of the building safety programme, including surveys, specifications, and resident consultations


Skills and experiences:

  • HNC (or equivalent) in building and surveying or similar
  • Experience surveying fire safety related issues is essential
  • Associate Member of RICS or IFE, or working towards
  • Level 4 qualification in fire safety / assessment / engineering, or working towards
  • Previous experience working in a similar building or surveying role gained in the social housing, house building or local government sector
  • Good project management skills and previous experience managing remediation projects
  • Proven experience of working to deadlines and prioritising workloads
  • This role will involve driving on company business. In order to drive a company vehicle, drivers must hold a full valid UK driving licence.

Role Salary is £32,925 with an additional policy allowance of £2,150 per annum (rising to £34,658 with an additional policy allowance of £2,263 per annum after 12 months, subject to satisfactory performance)
